Why tennis' fans should be thinking of the game without the current great.

Like a bolt out of the blues, Roger Federer, one of the most iconic figure in the world of tennis announced his retirement from the game that gave him so much wealth, influence and titles at the age of 41. To some, he ought to have retired long ago when injuries started limiting his appearances in Major tennis tournaments.

Today, we have Novak Djokovic, Rafeal Nadal and to a certain degrees, Andy Murray who has actually called it quit with the game earlier. All these tennis greats who are grand slam winners are all in their mid- thirties, a stage where law of diminishing returns and age induced injuries are regular occurrence.

A look at the young guys out there who should be replacing them doesn't elicit joy nor optimism because of lack of consistency, thereby creating the fear of a vacuum.

With the pains of Federer gone, I wonder how the tennis world will then be when the likes of Rafeal Nadal who have been having fitness concerns for years and Novak Djokovic, coupled with Andy Murray who has over the years been a bit part player? It's not only the male, even female tennis lost the most successful, domineering and talented tennis player of her era in Serena Williams.

So just like the male, the young ladies out there can't really be trusted as well. As it stands, the world of tennis has to live in the moments and memories of these great players, so that the pains wouldn't be too catastrophic when they eventually leave the scene.
