When Southampton's Mohammed Salisu opened the scoring against South Korea midway through the first half at Education City Stadium, it elicited joy, but when Ajax midfielder Kudus doubled the Black Stars’ lead, it was euphoria as the West African country and its armada of fans knew then that the ghost of the loss against Portugal has been buried.
Even though South Korea roared back with a quickfire double from forward Cho Gue-sung either side of the hour mark. Ghana were back in front in the 68th minute when Kudus finished calmly at the back post as the result takes Ghana into second in Group H on three points. Even though they tried hard, the Koreans are likely to crash out of the tournament at the group stage for the third straight World Cup.
