Less than six months after Calvin Bassey's arrival, former Real Madrid and Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijer is calling for Calvin Bassey to be benched at Ajax.
The young Nigerian has been the subject of criticism since he joined Ajax Amsterdam from Glasgow Rangers for a club-record fee in the summer.
A tactical weapon in the hands of manager Alfred Schreuder because of his versatility because he is comfortable playing at centre-back, full-back and wingback.
He currently has two assists in six UEFA Champions appearances and a further two assists in 12 Eredivisie matches. He has also started 18 games played across the two competitions.
Meanwhile, ex- dutch international Wesley Sneijder is yet to be convinced by Calvin Bassey’s displays and has called on the Ajax boss to consider taking the Nigerian out of the starting lineup.
Calvin Bassey can’t build up, Timber isn’t doing well, and you don’t have a controlling midfielder to build up, then it becomes difficult in the build-up. So, you must have someone who can play the ball between the lines.
