Another implosion hits Juventus as the entire board resign

Sixteen years after the Calciopoli scandal in 2006, the entire Juventus board have unanimously decided to resign claiming it was in the best interests of the club to resign and allow a new group of executives to take the club forward. A proposal by President Agnelli as the club face charges relating to false accounting and manipulation. This is in relation to Prisma Investigation which was opened by the Turin Public Prosecutor's Office, as the club is alleged to have misrepresented financial losses in the period of 2018 and 2020. As it is now, Prosecutors are investigating the amount ascribed to player sales during this period. about 15 suspects are being investigated, including Agnelli.

However, they have denied any wrongdoing, even though investigation has now been concluded, making it imperative that the findings could soon be announced. With

2021-22 season a record-breaking losses for the Old Lady with a £220million (€254.3million) loss registered indicating things have not gone well behind the scenes for quite some time, and a change of direction very much needed now.

The list includes Managing director Maurizio Arrivabene who has resigned, but will stay on in the short-term in an administrative duties during the transition period.

Juventus could be hit with significant sanctions if found to have broken the rules, maybe the possibility of a points deduction or even relegation, that is if it is determined that they tricked authorities over salary payments to players. Such will bring back the memories of the Calciopoli scandal in 2006. Where investigation uncovered that many Italian clubs had relations with the referee organisations in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, which led to Juventus been relegated to Serie B and stripped of the 2004-05 title plus been downgraded to last place in 2005-06. Fellow Serie A rivals like AC Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina were also punished for their involvement in the scandal, but only Juventus were the only side relegated from Serie A.

For the Agnelli family have been associated with Juventus for almost 100 years, this is another trying times as Agnelli Andrea is the fourth member of the family after his father, uncle and grandfather, to hold the position of president. So, It's pretty clear that that this is not a decision taken lightly. However, with the gravity of the issue on hand, he was left with little choice due to differences within the club couple with the club's budget which was worrying for majority shareholders.
